Erik's studio

Like most of our DJs, Erik too was passionate about music and radio from a young age.

As a teenager, he listened to the great offshore radio stations in the 70s: Mi Amigo, Veronica, Caroline, Alantis, North Sea. Radio Luxembourg also had his wide interest.

In 1978 he went on tour with a friend who had his own disco bar, 5 meters long. Revolutionary at the time. Erik operated the light switches.

Then, in 1982 he became responsible for the non-stop music hours on the immensely popular Belgian free radio VRL (Leuven). Radio automation did not yet exist at that time...

Encouraged by a friend, a demo cassette was quickly submitted and Erik's presented program 'Popexpress' was born. Listeners noticed and ratings went up.

After VRL, Flemish stations such as Mi Amigo, SIS, X-TRA FM and Radio Contact followed.

Erik also operated the road shows for several of those stations - including for the weekly pop magazine 'Joepie Super 30', performing all throughout Flanders.

In 1993 Erik stopped his musical activities, temporarily, giving priority to his young family. But in 2004 he was asked again to lighten up parties as a DJ, and he hasn't stopped since. What started as a hobby, quickly evolved into a professional multimedia road show complete with video screens, which is now also used by the Radio Mi Amigo Drive-In Show that he operates.

Sound and light - Mi Amigo live from Blankenberge, summer 2020 During the live broadcasts of Radio Mi Amigo International in Blankenberge (2020) and Zeebrugge (2021), Erik provided the sound equipment and logistical support and... that old dormant radio virus reared its head again.

Coincidentally, a professional digital Studer radio mixing console was found that needed some upgrades. Erik received support from Lion Keezer and technicians Edo Peters & Patrick van den Hoek to set up a state-of-the-art high tech (live) radio studio.

From February 24, 2023 Eriks show 'Popexpress' will air every week, with a focus on international hits: French, German, Italian and Spanish songs that sound great on the radio everywhere!
